16 Year Old Builds Tiny House For High School Project!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share this awesome video. It’s another perfect example of what we can do when we really put our minds to it.

This young man, of only 16 years, built a tiny house as part of his high school project. One he plans to live in, rather than purchasing a home and going into debt. I’d say that’s quite an accomplishment at any age!

As you know, part of our goal here is ensuring the ability for an individual to build structurally sound green buildings where building codes might prohibit them.

That’s why this is such an inspiration. It really demonstrates that we do in fact have the potential to create our own debt free shelter on our lands if we are willing to put in the effort.

Off Grid Legal Defense – Supporting the Earth

Our off grid homestead.

Welcome! We decided to set up the Church of the Earth People for one very specific reason. We constantly hear of folks who get told they cannot use this, that, or another thing in their self sustaining endeavors. Things like rainwater collection, off grid electric, or alternative building. Through the church’s off grid legal defense fund, we hope to offer assistance based on first amendment freedom of religion, guaranteed by the constitution. This is similar to the sort of freedom that the Christian Scientist folks enjoy with their medical rights.

We hope to achieve a fund for defending members rights on these and related issues. There is no tithe; there are no dues. We are seeking an attorney who is willing to assist, and are in the process of setting up a defense fund for that purpose.

Why is an Off Grid Legal Defense Fund Needed?

Say you’ve decided to make the off grid move. You want to drastically reduce your consumption of resources, you want a quiet retreat, and/or you want to be self-sufficient. Did you know that your dream is not necessarily legal? Off Grid World has a descriptive list of typical ordinances that present legal barriers to off grid living. An abbreviated list follows:

  • Camping on your land while you build is usually illegal.
  • Rainwater collection may be illegal. (For example, see this Washington Post article.)
  • Your composting toilet is probably illegal. Septic systems are normally required.
  • Restrictive building codes restrict options. DeaTech Research describes the complexities of getting around codes for alternative building structures here.

How You Can Help

You can help by following our blog and talking about us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

We encourage everyone to post in the forum regarding anything concerning off grid lifestyles, alternative building, and related stuff. As a community we can protect and learn from each other.

ALL OUR WORK IS TOTALLY NON-DENOMINATIONAL and has only to do with protecting the planet and loving one another. We will never promote violence in any form.

Thank You, Steven

Aggie and I wish to thank Steven for donating his time and financing to create this website, and encourage anyone interested to partake in the meditation group he is putting together.

Thank you for your time.

Well that was fun! (new discussion board)

So the website blocked my IP due to too many logins, and I couldn’t get any access, and it took me awhile to figure out what happened, and how to fix it :X

Anyways, it’s fixed and we now have a new community forum and discussion board found at churchoftheearthpeople.org/community

I hope you all join us so we can start discussing different ways to assist the Earth in its process of healing and rejuvenation.

Cause that’s what we’re all here for right?

So let’s get to it. Hope to hear from all of you soon!
